Position size calculator
Work out how much to buy or sell so that hitting your stop costs a fixed, known amount. Enter your balance, the share of it you are willing to risk, your entry and your stop.
Nothing is sent anywhere — the arithmetic runs in your browser.
The arithmetic, shown openly
A calculator you cannot check is not much use, so here is exactly what it does:
cash at risk = balance × risk%
stop distance = |entry − stop|
position size = cash at risk ÷ stop distance
lots = position size ÷ units per lot
With a $10,000 balance risking 1%, buying gold at 2350 with a stop at 2335: $100 at risk over a 15-point stop is 6.67 units, or 0.067 lots at 100 units per lot.
Two things this calculator cannot do
It cannot guarantee your loss. A stop is an instruction to exit, not a promise of price. In a fast or gapping market your fill can be worse than the stop level, and the real loss larger than the figure above. Position sizing limits your intended risk, not your worst case.
It cannot tell you what to risk. There is no correct percentage, and anyone quoting one as a rule is guessing. What matters more is deciding the number before the trade and keeping it consistent, so a losing run stays survivable.
Know the size. Now read the setup.
